Charlton Athletic went into their six-pointer against Stoke City on a high, having beaten Barnsley in another vital match in the previous game.
However, the mood has changed drastically, following a disappointing performance and result, as goals from James McClean, Tom Ince and Nick Powell handed the Potters a 3-1 victory.
Matt Southall put out a comment after the game, but it did nothing to appease fans – if anything, it only elevated their feelings of frustration.
One of the main things that annoyed fans is that he claimed the team “worked hard”, which they strongly disagreed with, as one claimed “I must have been watching Brentford”.
The players clearly didn’t work hard enough and show the level of strength required in their personal battles, as the home side won 11 more aerial duels and six more tackles than Charlton.

Even Lee Bowyer admitted that the team was “not good enough”, as reported by London News Online.
It appears that Southall’s comment also left him open to wider fire about what he, and East Street Investments, have done since coming in – or the lack of.
All of Charlton’s four January recruits were brought in on loan, which one fan has seen as them taking “the cheap option”.
Another fan has even compared him to Roland Duchatelet, while there seem to be very real concerns about relegation to League One, with the Addicks now just one place and four points above the relegation zone.
