Pundit says Gazzaniga is one of the top keepers in Championship

Mark Crossley reckons that Fulham have signed one of the top goalkeepers in the Championship in Paulo Gazzaniga.

After failing to make a single first-team appearance at Tottenham last term, the Argentine was released from his contract after falling behind Joe Hart in the pecking order.

And whilst Hart has since left to join Celtic, Gazzaniga had already left before dropping into the second-tier to sign for Fulham, who desperately needed a replacement for Alphonse Areola after he returned to PSG before joining West Ham.

Gazzaniga, who’s racked up 43 Premier league appearances for both Spurs and Southampton, has generally been a number two throughout his career, but has quickly established himself as Fulham’s first-choice goalkeeper under Marco Silva.

He’s yet to keep a clean sheet in any of his opening three outings for the Cottagers, but Crossley, who spent three years with Fulham between 2003 and 2006, rates him as one of the best around.

He exclusively told Football FanCast:

“He’s taken his time to get to where he needs to be. He’s certainly got the quality, I really like him as a goalkeeper, I think he’s a top signing.

“I think he could have had a better chance if it wasn’t for Lloris being a top goalkeeper. You look at all the goalkeepers in the Championship, would you put him in the top three? I would.”
